BB guns - an overview

The BB guns are very popular these days as a means for playful shooting. However, a large number of people still are not aware of what the BB guns actually are.

A BB gun is basically an air gun designed to shoot projectiles known as BBs. These projectiles are named such because of their resemblance to the birdshot pellets which are of the same size.

Most of the BB guns shoot the spherical projectiles, however in some BB gun models the projectiles used can actually be pointed. The BB gun models using the pointed projectiles are sometimes used for hunting birds or small animals.

The popular BB gun models these days have a design featuring a smoothbore barrel, with a caliber of 0.177 inches. Also, these BB gun models use the BBs made out of steel which are generally plated in zinc or copper so that they do not get corroded. Their size is commonly between 4.34 to 4.39 mm and they are easily available for sale.
