A BB gun is a kind of an air gun. BB guns are generally designed for the purpose of shooting projectiles. The BB guns mostly are used for the general purpose of shooting and target practices. The projectiles (or the BBs as they are called) are usually round shaped. However sometimes these may be found to be in pointed shapes. The old and original BB guns generally used lead shots of BB size. The lead shots being used became famous as the BBs and thus the air rifle came to be known as the BB guns.
There are many variations and types of BB guns. Almost all of the types of the BB guns are safe and do not really cause any kind of harm to anyone, unless one aims them at the sensitive areas of the body. Mostly these BB guns are used for the common purpose of shooting down garden pests like rats, moles and the like. These BB guns are also used for target practicing as well as shooting practices of birds.
