The BB In BB Guns

A BB gun actually is a kind of air gun. These guns were named BBs after the almost same size of the birdshot pellet being used in the guns. The BB guns mostly are used for the general purpose of shooting and target practices. The projectiles (or the BBs as they are called) are usually round shaped. However sometimes these may be found to be in pointed shapes. These BBs with the pointed shapes are the ones which are used during the shooting of birds. The old and original BB guns generally used lead shots of BB size. The lead shots being used became famous as the BBs and thus the air rifle came to be known as the BB guns.

The common BBs or lead shots being used for the BB guns are 0.24 inches i.e. have a diameter of 6mm. These lead shots or pellets that are commonly known as BBs are made up of non metallic or plastic material, with an intention of causing less harm to the target.
